He did the crime now make him pay for it. He must learn and yes he is 18 and now he will have it on his record.

it seems to me that his options are whatever the police tell him his options are. a lawyer for shoplifting? i’d just plead guilty and try to get some kind of community service or educational sentence (like you have to go to a class to find out why shoplifting is bad).

A lawyer could probably get it reduced to almost nothing, or discharged depending upon how sneaky he is. Having a criminal history for your entire life is pretty stupid.
