Can I study a paralegal qualification in MA, and then study in a law school and practice law in NY?

Mike asks:

Can I study a paralegal qualification (Bachelor or Associate) in Boston, MA, and then study in a law school and practice law in NYC, NY?

And where do I get to practice being a paralegal and being a lawyer? Either in Boston or NYC?

You can attend law school in any state (as long as a school accepts you) and then practice in another state (as long as you pass their bar exam). You will learn federal law in law school, not state law. Same goes for most paralegal programs. I attended an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited school for my associates in paralegal studies and was taught federal law.

Some states might have requirements to be a paralegal, I think I’ve seen on here that California paralegals must be certified. States vary, I live and work as a paralegal in Arizona and am not required to be certified. You will have to look into the requirements in both Mass and New York.
